I've Got The Blues

Blue seems to be the color of Spring/Summer 2014. I think 75% of the lingerie I've been ogling for warm weather this year was blue or some shade of blue. The remaining 25% being black or blush, of course.

But I've really got the blues, as in the feelings. You see, I attempted to order this La Perla Noche de Viento bra from the Journelle sale this weekend—along with another blue La Perla Studio bralette—and yours truly was denied. I guess we all got a little too grabby over this incredible bra that was priced as an incredible steal, and someone else won the fight.

Like, I was even willing to purchase it without the matching bottoms. That's how bad I wanted it. Sobs. It's okay. But I hope it went to a good home.

Okay, now time to move on. If you're willing to pay full price, Net-a-Porter has a few sizes left, so scoot over there and treat yoself.

Lust List: A Little Bit O' Lace

I'm currently coveting this wispy little Kiki de Montparnasse lace cami + briefs set. I've had it open in my browser for over a week and keep going back to look at it.

I think in a way it sort of represents what Pretty Little Underthings has been in 2013: sparse in coverage (haha, sorry... kinda), but beautiful nonetheless, and a little complex. Looking forward to welcoming 2014 and all the beautiful lingerie to come in the new year. Cheers!

On Layering For Fall

Image via / Double vision created by me

As we all prepare for the long weekend + NYFW mayhem, can we just stop for a second and talk about this bodysuit? I was quickly scrolling through Net-a-Porter earlier for some fall fashion inspiration and the weird silhouette of this item made me click, mostly out of sheer curiosity. It was strange—alien-like—among the carefully curated page of wool coats, sweaters, boots. What was this bizarre body stocking with nubs?

A body stocking it definitely is, but those nubs are apparently "hand-applied" Swarovski crystals. SHINY THINGS. ALL OVER. I have to admit that the end effect (well, styled as shown on NAP and the Saint Laurent fall runway) is quite rocker chic. I can also totally see people making a complete and total mess of this piece and looking like a train wreck, photos of which I eagerly await to see via the Interwebz because people are cruel.

So let me pose some questions: are there crystals on the bottom of the footsies? Wouldn't it just feel like you're walking on little pebbles in your moto boots that you can't shake out? And the most important question of all: wearing this clearly (har har) is going to make you feel like a rock star, but how the EFF do you go to the bathroom after you've swigged an entire bottle of champagne?

Beat the Heat: Summertime Bra Roundup, Part 1

If you live in NYC (the tri-state area, including eastern Pennsylvania), you'll know what I'm talking about when I say "IT'S TOO DAMN HOT TO WEAR A BRA". These seemingly incessant heat waves even continue with thunderstorms that aren't powerful enough to break the miserable weather.

But let's be serious—I love wearing white in the summer, thus I can't not wear a bra. But I do have a few that have been my saving grace these past couple of months, mostly made of the softest mesh and lace that are still utterly breathable and comfortable even as I run around the city dripping with sweat (SO ladylike, I know). Beat the summer heat with these styles (mostly wireless) that won't add another layer of sweaty misery to your outfit.

A Belated-Everything Wishlist

Hello! Bonjour! It's been awhile. I haven't forgotten about PLU, I've just been busy and unfortunately my blog has gotten the short end of the stick. Fortunately, my birthday recently passed and I thought it'd be fun to post a lil' (belated) birthday wishlist because I've been seeing some reeeallly lovely pieces and I can't wait to post them individually. Also because these are all things I wanted for my birthday, I just never told anyone.

1. Dolce & Gabbana Floral-print Bodysuit

An artful floral slash nautical print with bold strokes in a stretch-silk blend fabric. I love Dolce & Gabbana's bodysuits for their loud prints and classic bombshell silhouettes. This would be perfect with jeans and a leather jacket.  $1,245. Available at net-a-porter.com.

2. Mimi Holliday Mojito Set
Y'all know how much I love Mimi Holliday; so much that my birthday wishlist probably would seem like a forgery if I didn't include a Mimi on here! I loved this almost-fluorescent-but-not-quite-because-it's-classier colour the most of the spring/summer colorways, and had to resist the temptation to buy it when I tried it on a few weeks ago. Pair it with a tan (SPF kids!) and a real mojito for summertime cool. Or just hang it up in your room and stare at it.  Bra, $82. Boyshorts, $76. Available at Journelle.com.

3. ARI DEIN Boutique Hotel Demi Gown
In strawberry ice, please! This is lady in the front, and lady-of-the-night in the back. Okay, well she'd have to be a really classy lady of the night. Who isn't really a lady of the night. I mean, at least it's a classy way to show off some side boob and the toned back you've been working on in pilates class. And it's gorgeous, handmade and 100% made in my favorite city, NYC.  $295, available at Journelle.com.

Hump Day Pick: Silk-Chiffon Ruffles from Jenny Packham

image via net-a-porter.com

Don't lie to me—you love this too, don't you? I love the possibility of versatility with this jacket, read: just because it's called a "bed jacket" don't mean you gotta keep it in the bedroom. As long as you're not wearing heavy jewelry that'll snag it and ultimately make you sad, I think it's safe to say this would look amazing layered over jeans, a black bodysuit and riding boots.

But you know, this picture below totally sold me on keepin' it boudoir (I'm so going to trademark that) too:

Ugh, Jenny Packham—why must you torture me with your silk confections of amazingness? Hump day indeed.

Hump Day Pick: A Pre-Valentine's Tease

Mimi Holliday Frappe Lace and Silk-Satin Bra & Briefs
image via netaporter

I saw this set on at least the first four websites I browsed while looking for items to include in the gift guides I have coming up, and of course I couldn't resist posting this one on it's own. IT'S JUST SO PRETTTTYYYYYY. Y'all know I'm a sucker for Mimi Holliday's plunge bras, and the eyelash lace detail in this set is just to die for. Can you imagine that lace fanning out on your fanny? Bee-yoo-ti-ful. Make sure you do your hamstring exercises to tone and lift your bootay for these gorgeous undies.

Mimi Holliday Frappe Lace and Silk-Satin Plunge Bra, $90. Frappe Lace and Silk-Satin Briefs, $70. Available at Net-A-Porter.com.

Tempting Tuesdays: Floral Lace All Over, Thanks Agent Provocateur!

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Agent Provocateur Sidonie Floral Lace Set
images via net-a-porter.com

Agent Provocateur makes some of the hottest (by that I mean, amp-ed up sexypants) luxury lingerie on the market, and when I saw this set on Net-A-Porter.com, I did a double-take when I saw those bottoms. Holy cannoli, cutout briefs. I've seen cutout high-waisted briefs before, but on regular ol' granny panty style bottoms, seeing cutout bottoms is a first for me. These aren't for your granny. Unless your granny has like, really incredible taste in lingerie.

Floral lace? Check. Super-hot cutout bottoms? Check. A garter that makes the whole ensemble look freaking incredible on your body? Hell to the yes. In fact, I think the garter is what really makes this set look so amazing together. Take a looksee here and here. Convinced now? Kthnxbye.

Sidonie floral-lace underwired bra, $190. Sidonie floral-lace garter belt, $170. Sidonie floral-lace cutout briefs, $170. All available at Net-A-Porter.com.

Tempting Tuesdays: Marni, Oh Marni

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Marni Stretch Silk-Satin Set

So I read yesterday that Marni is launching a kids line, which seemed to make some people mad. I honestly don't give two cares as long as lingerie like this gorgeous set keeps on comin'. I feel like emerald green undies are pretty rare, and I love how it's used as an accent color on this set rather than your usual pinks and purples. The retro style combined with the colorblocked design gives it a sporty feel, but these aren't your boyfriend's BVDs—thanks to the luxe stretchy, silky satin that you'll want next to your skin (and he might want to feel it too, so give him a hug).

An Outfit: The New (& More Fun) Bustier.

Bustiers need a lil' love. I think we've all become so accustomed to thinking of these as soon as we hear or read "bustier". But we should start thinking of ones like this Kiki de Montparnasse one, that we can lovingly wear as tops and make really, really fun outfits from! I'd love to wear this outfit this weekend—if only I had that bustier, Hurricane Irene be damned.

See the items on Polyvore.

Kiki de Montparnasse floral lace bustier, $260. Available at Net-A-Porter.com.

Tempting Tuesdays: Luxe Lace Because You Can

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Luxe Lace by Rosamosario & Deborah Marquit
images via various sources, see polyvore items for details

Soooo yeah, Monday night, I was just doin' my routine scroll through my standby fashion e-tail sites and I did a double take when I saw this black lacy number, because I had done a quick rundown of Net-A-Porter on Saturday and couldn't believe I missed it! And you know what? A piece that fun and pretty deserves a whole outfit. I imagine I'd probably throw on a low-V chemise on underneath as well (like this favorite from The Lake and Stars) since it's prreeeetty see through, but you get the idea. I've blinded you with the glowingly fabulous Deborah Marquit set before, but I thought if you were going to just wear the chemise + bra & undies, then you may as well go with something bright and punchy. Yeah, that's right, punchy.

For details on the other items in the set, visit Polyvore.

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

'ello, ladies! Hope everyone's summer has been going just fiiine. Can you believe it's July 19th already?? One of my close college friends told me that her grandmother always says, "Summer is almost over!" right after the Fourth of July. Pretty depressing statement, huh? But have no fear—I want to keep summer going for as long as possible, so here's another swimwear roundup from one of my favorite curators of fine swimwear, Net-A-Porter!

Also, I'll be announcing another giveaway tomorrow JUST FOR THE NYC/Tri-State FANS that is kinda sorta related to this post (and one that I'M really excited about), so stay tuned!

Tempting Tuesdays: Celebrating with a Vintagey Set from The Lake and Stars

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Wave Lace Bustier Bra and High-Waisted Briefs by The Lake and Stars
I haven't done a Tempting Tuesdays post in awhile, so I thought it was only appropriate that the comeback post would be dedicated to my first lingerie love, The Lake and Stars. I picked up this set for myself Memorial Day weekend as a "yay, new job!" gift to myself (I'm single, I'm allowed to reward myself for lots of reasons), and a surprise 20% off at Azaleas NYC didn't hurt either.

This set can seem a bit intimidating in photos, but it really has an incredibly gorgeous delicate quality as well. I'm definitely filing the bottoms under "power bitch briefs" (and I'll even make a new tag for that), but the hook-and-eye closure in the back makes 'em hottie-hot-hot. I love that they took their Grand Prix briefs and added the lace panel in front. The architectural feel of the lines in the briefs give the illusion that they're sculpting around your body—without the Spanx effect.

The long-line bustier bra is a dream come true for innerwear-as-outerwear connoisseurs. Even before I bought this, when I first saw it on Azaleas' site, I was already thinking of ways I could wear it and incorporate it into everyday outfits. Let's be serious—it's WAY too gorgeous to hide from the world. I tried it on at home with a black maxi skirt that I wear high-waisted, and it ended up looking like an amazing dress. Throw on a sheer-ish white linen button-down (well, maybe not these days because it's like, 80 and humid in NYC and I'd rather not wear clothes but for common decency I have to), shorts, and your favorite flat sandals for a casual summer evening look! I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one, that's for sure.

Wave lace bustier bra, $165. Available at Azaleas NYC and Net-A-Porter.com.
Wave lace high-waisted briefs, $60. Available at Azaleas NYC and Net-A-Porter.com.

Tempting Tuesdays: Deborah Marquit's Fabulous Fluorescence

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Deborah Marquit French Lace Set
I had another post planned for today but a certain turn of events prompted me to change it at the last minute to this fabulous, fluorescent yellow set by Deborah Marquit. Chances are, right now you're probably squinting to see the details (because I sure am just trying to type this!) but you can't deny that this color just makes you smile. This isn't even about the style (though the French lace is gorgeous), it's about the color and how something so bright makes me giggle a bit in it's obnoxiousness. And we all need a daily giggle. Further proof that lingerie makes you happy.

Tempting Tuesdays: Marni's Summer-Pretty Silk Set

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Marni Printed Silk Bra & Briefs Set
You probably know by now that I'm a total sucker for prints, and Marni got me again with this summer-pretty set. I love how the print either looks like an abstract floral or a pretty badass rope chain. I'm all for either one, especially on such pretty silk. It's a perfect bra to wear under an slightly oversized solid tank—it's got all the detail you need to dress up an outfit. Well, maybe add some delicate jewelry but let this bra be the star! Pair the briefs, throw on a pleated maxi skirt, and revel in the knowledge that you're wearing one hell of a fab lingerie set and let that coy smile carry you through your day.

Tempting Tuesdays: The I-Want-Swimwear Edition, Part II

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

1. Mara Hoffman Aztec-print Balconette Bikini
I saw this in a recent issue of SELF magazine, and I fell in love... (and it may be the reason I skipped a bagel and had oatmeal yesterday morning). I adore the contrast between the ruffle detail and the super-graphic bold print. Plus the halter strap is removable, which is always a plus. I like choice.

Available at Net-A-Porter.com, $220.

2. Rosa Cha Ruched Printed Swimsuit
Who doesn't love figure-forgiving ruching and a bright floral print? Check out the awesome cutout detail in the back too. This one can also double as a bodysuit, so throw on some high-waisted trousers (I told you, I'm obsessed with high-waisted) and your favorite heels, et voilĂ —a killer summer look that won't limit this suit to just the pool.

Available at Net-A-Porter.com, $350.

3. Camilla and Marc High Sun Bikini
I love how this color-blocked bikini reminds me of a certain t-shirt everyone seemed to have in the late 80's. The little bow details give it a sweet touch, and look—high-waisted done right!

Available at Anthropologie. Top, $88. Bottom, $98.

4. Diane von Furstenberg Pan String Bikini
Your basic string bikini with a print composed of different colors that normally wouldn't seem to go together, but DvF somehow makes it work. ...Probably because she's DvF, but whatever. I love that despite how the print has darker colors, the bright green is what catches my attention.

Available at Barneys, $185.

5. Eberjey First Mate Bikini
I mean, c'mon. If you can't understand why this one is just so completely adorable, I don't know why you read my blog. Ok, sorry that was kind of mean. But really—this preppy swimwear done right. A rope halterneck for nautical stripes? Yes, please. The option to wear this as a bandeau top instead of a halter? Yes, please! Well done, Eberjey, well done.
Available at FortyWinks.com. Phoebe Top, $74. Camilla Bottoms, $62.

Hump Day Pick: High-Waisted Loveliness

If you're a new reader (hello!), there's something you should know: j'adore high-waisted anything. Jeans, shorts, skirts, and of course, lingerie. Lucky me, there's tons of styles this season for high-waisted, NON-shapewear bottoms! Here's a roundup of five high-waisted bottoms I love—all at different price points.

1. Hopeless Lingerie Shelly Coral Modal Jersey Knickers
Available at Hopeless Lingerie, $70.

2. Agent Provacateur Cindy High-Waisted Net-Lace Briefs
Available at Net-A-Porter.com, $170.

3. Anthropologie Silhouette Brief

Available at Anthropologie.com, $48.

Tempting Tuesdays: Feuillage Tulle Set by Jean-Paul Gaultier for La Perla

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Feuillage Tulle Set by Jean-Paul Gaultier for La Perla
Happy spring! Gaultier does it again with this intricately detailed, peacock-blue-green set that makes me wish for warmer weather (the tease we got in NYC this past weekend wasn't enough). With briefs decorated to look like leaves are growing from your ladybits, and a bralette made of sheer tulle and detailed with silk twill, you can look like Mother Earth when she's on lovermoon.

At this price point, this set is definitely not for the faint-hearted (or those who have their wallets on lockdown), and only for the diehard La Perla / Gaultier fans, but looking is always free.

Triangle bra, $590. Tulle briefs, $395. Available at Net-A-Porter.com.

Tempting Tuesdays: The I-Want-Swimwear Edition, Part I

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

1. The Phoenix Triangle Bikini by We Are Handsome
LOVE the delicately fiery print on this bikini and how it manages to be almost feathery at the same time. The satin finish and gold-tipped strings add a bit of a luxe feel. Minor detail: Phoenix is one of my favorite bands, so yeah. This at the top of my list, heyyy.

2. Valentine Printed Underwired Bikini by Zimmermann
Such a fun tropical print on this underwire bikini! The pretty white crochet trims are what differentiate this from any old suit you'd find, as well as a detachable halterneck strap in case a strapless top isn't for you.

3. Haven Floral-Print Bandeau Bikini by JETS by Jessika Allen
Bandeau top? Check. Pretty floral print? Check. High-waisted bottoms? CHECK! The ruched panel in the front of the bottoms is very forgiving. I love the print's pointillist style, and who doesn't love wearing a painting? You know you'd want to.
