PFW: Bras Are The New Tops

I came back from Paris late last Thursday night, and I still don't think I'm back on NYC time yet. But regardless of how I feel now, I must share my favorite looks from Paris Fashion Week. The common theme amongst them: bras as tops. Also some camisole-esque dresses and more sheer things. And nipples.

CHANEL
I have to start with Chanel because you know I'm a hardcore devotée, but also this post has so many pictures I need to make sure you'll look at the most important, which is Chanel. Anyway, loved the easy-breezy-ness of the looks, including the hair and makeup. Every model had her own thang happening, and all the looks were so different. I was totally digging how dressed up some of the looks were, while others were beach-ready.

SONIA RYKIEL
I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't have looked at Sonia Rykiel but I had to look since this was Julie de Libran's first collection. And wow. So youthful, easy, and ranged from pretty to edgy. Loved all the criss-cross bra tops under the boxy jackets, and how versatile the tops went with different bottoms. Key here: leather. Also, the sheer dress as seen on Kendall Jenner.

SAINT LAURENT
For the gal who wants to look sexy and tell Instagram to go eff-off. Nipples abounded, which were the perfect complement to an über-dramatic cat-eye. The sheer black stockings were totally necessary to reign in the looks from "street walker" to "street style". Like seriously though, no one can do platform sandals, stockings, and a leather bustier in one outfit like the Saint Laurent girl.

MFW: Shades of Sheer

If we judge from the collections shown during Milan Fashion Week, it seems like it's a continuing affirmation of the NY collections that designers want women in sheer everything next spring/summer. And the concept is exciting—the thought of reprieve from humid NYC temps, plus it gives lingerie bloggers like me so much material to work with (no pun intended). The creative-appreciator/blogger side of me is jumping for joy, but the practical side has me shaking my head. Has corporate life changed me that much? But honestly, how can I run around NYC (or Paris) showing off my undies for the sake of the seasons' trends?

Milan collections seemed to go from sheer to sheerer. Below, select looks from a few designers to give you some ideas of what you may see next spring. Some are instagram-friendly, but most aren't—until IG drops their nipple ban, that is.

FENDI: Sheer skirts and slashed tops. Bandeau bras & crop tops to show off that midriff you'll be working on all winter. Also, super pretty floaty organza dresses that have nothing to do with this theme but Binx Walton looked so pretty in it that I had to post.

BLUMARINE: More sheer skirts and pretty embroidery & appliqué details.

MSGM: More sheer skirts and funky embroidery details.

PORTS 1961: Sheer skirts again—and sheer cropped pants(!), longline bra tops under sheer tops.

NO. 21: Sheer overlay on shorts (curveball), but still sheer skirts (of courses), and nip-slippable crop tops.

ALBERTA FERRETTI: Sheer skirts and dresses with pretty embroidery details. And harnesses!

Pure Poetry

I present to you all: a set of haikus by Erica Paik for the prettiest long line bra this fall — Clo Intimo's Kali Underwire Bustier (and charming matching boy shorts)!

How often does lingerie move you to poetry? And agreed—adore the tiny star details. A pretty change from the ubiquitous bow or crystal charm, but still chic and low-key.

Spring 2015 Goals

NYFW is over, but that just means the show circuit has just begun. I snuck in some time this weekend in between working on projects to speed through most of the New York shows, but the one that made me go back and look at three more times was unexpected.

Tomas Maier.

Huh? I mean, makes total sense because I love the aesthetic of Bottega Veneta, but I honestly didn't think that his namesake collection would be the one that made me really want anything. I usually just flip through the slideshows to get a sense of what the upcoming trends will be (not that I can really tell these days, since everything either looks exactly the same or totally different and it seems like anything goes), but I never truly want what I'm looking at.

Yet this collection is the one that is now making me anxiously waiting for next Spring and Summer to come, just when I was getting super-pumped about layers and cozy sweaters. I even took two pairs of boots to the cobbler to get freshened up for the cooler temps.

So, goals for 2015:
- exercise and tone up my arms for all these cute little bodysuits, and tone up my core for dresses with sheer midriff panels
- win the lottery so I can buy these looks and go on a fancy vacay worthy of them

I'll keep you posted on how I do.

So, voilà—my favorite looks from the collection. What do you think?

Breezy Whites for Summer Weekends

I'm sartorially torn these days. Part of me yearns to fill my closet with tailored, sharp basics to elevate my office style a bit more, yet another part of me just wants to run around the city looking hippie-chic all day. Considering I spend five out of seven days in a corporate office, I know which way I need to lean, but I can channel my inner bohemian (wait, what?) on the weekends.

Let's be serious for a minute though, my inner bohemian these days goes as far as wearing a jersey maxidress from J.Crew (in black, no less) with an oversized open-knit cardigan from Anthropologie, just to give you some context. But I did have a part-time sales stint at Free People during college, so I'm pretty sure I could score at least an A- in Boho Dress 101. It also probably explains why I'm so drawn to this dress so much as well.

This dress is a summer style triple threat: it's flowy & breezy, white, and layerable into fall (and again into summer). In the summer, all I want to wear are breezy, flowy things (mainly to avoid sweating through my clothes in stifling city heat. Sexy, yea?), and let's ignore the fact that you'd probably need to wear another slip dress under this slip dress to wear this innerwear as outerwear. And I want everything to be white—I get a nice bronze which looks nice with white clothing, or so I've been told. The layerability is a total plus; throw on some leggings, boots and a sweater and you're good to go.

But if you don't mind, let me just have two more blissful, bare-legged months.

Summertime Lingerie Dressing, Part I

If you live on the East Coast, you've probably had some insanely cold and an insanely long winter. We've finally been experiencing some warm weather in NYC—thank goodness, finally now that it's June. I feel more secure now about searching for wardrobe inspiration to revamp my spring/summer style.

One of the chicest ladies in my office was wearing a beautiful black silk romper today. Or should I call it a jumpsuit? I like the word romper because it has shorts, but it sounds so un-chic to say a chic woman wore a romper to work. Nevertheless. The long sleeves make it work appropriate, but the lacy details à la ARI DEIN are what caught my eye. So imagine my surprise when she told me it was MAJE!

But really, the lace details soften an otherwise severe black romper; the long sleeves make it perfect for chilly offices while the shorts make this cool for lunch runs in the summer. And once fall comes again, just throw on a chunky cardigan or leather jacket over it and you can extend the shelf-life of this by another two months.
