Holiday Wishlist: Jess Tice, Artist

Jess Tice is an artist (and her paper pop-up skills are so crazy cool), who also happens to have beautiful taste in lingerie. A supporter of PLU since the start, her enthusiasm for pretty little everythings is such an inspiration and reminds me why I love writing about lingerie. So excited to share her wish list for a beautiful, relaxing holiday season!

1. Morgan Lane Orion Frankie Shirt
I hope this little number is under my tree this year!  It's ever so versatile for work and play, dressed up or down.

This is for my rock-and-roll side… which is just edgy enough to wear this on a daily basis but not actually take the piercing plunge.

I think everyone needs a ritual for the end of the day. Mine includes a cocktail and slipping into this luxurious Dead Sea mineral bath salt—nothing relaxes me quite like this. And I love supporting local businesses—Soap Cherié is in Brooklyn.

Dita hits all the right marks with her lingerie line. I love the color of this set in Parisienne Blue, and how it just oozes sex appeal. And now that I'm a grown up, I'll actually wear the set together.

This jasmine perfume is divine! The smell isn't overpowering and not too floral. It's the perfect mysterious scent. I have to admit that whenever I stop at ABC Carpet, I have to 'try' it on.

 Shop Jess' Wishlist:
1. Morgan Lane Orion Frankie Shirt, $138 at Journelle.com.
2. Jennie Kwon Diamond Septum Cuff, $210 at CatbirdNYC.com.
3. Soap Cherie Neroli Bergamot Bath Soak, $28 at SoapCherie.com.
4. Dita Von Teese Madame X Set: Underwire Bra, $70; Bikini, $42; Garter, $52. All available at Journelle.com.

Holiday Wishlist: Jill H., Writer

Esther's Note: I want to introduce you all to Jill, one of PLU's new team members and a writer at a luxury fashion & beauty company. Girl has brains, sass and impeccable taste—and a gift for punning on the fly. If any/all of that + her holiday wish list isn't enough to make you want to be her friend, then God help you. Enjoy reading her first post on PLU! xx

1. Stella McCartney Georgia Glowing Bodysuit
A little lace never hurt anybody, right? I’m a sucker for feminine details, especially when they’re balanced with bolder touches, like these striking, geometric panels. Layer this bodysuit under a dress, a cashmere sweater, basically anything you want… and boom, you’re in bombshell mode.

2. Chantelle Mouvance Demi Bra and Boxer Brief
Refer back to part one about the lace. This chic grey set is just the right amount of playful, with deco adornments and touches of gold. The perfect way to upgrade the everyday.

3. Proenza Schouler Printed Silk-Georgette Mini Dress
Let’s do some math: this dress + a leather jacket + some rag & bone Newburys + a red lip = one serious party (sorry for the long equation, but it’s important to keep the mind sharp). The monochromatic palette makes this drop-waist style endlessly versatile, perfect for any time of year.

4. Dressing for the Dark by Kate Young

Call me a cliché, but seeing the golden Vera Wang gown that Michelle Williams wore to the ’06 Oscars is still one of my favorite red-carpet moments (you know you loved it, too). So if Kate Young, the celebrity stylist behind said red-carpet appearance, wants to release a book about iconic fashion moments in film and unforgettable eveningwear, I’ll certainly be reading that.

5. Byredo Mini Candle Set
Ahh, time to relax. And what better way to relax than with a crazy-elegant trio of candles from Byredo? The black wax and black glass add instant ambiance, even before you strike a match. I think they’ll look great on my coffee table next to that Kate Young book…

Spring 2015 Goals

NYFW is over, but that just means the show circuit has just begun. I snuck in some time this weekend in between working on projects to speed through most of the New York shows, but the one that made me go back and look at three more times was unexpected.

Tomas Maier.

Huh? I mean, makes total sense because I love the aesthetic of Bottega Veneta, but I honestly didn't think that his namesake collection would be the one that made me really want anything. I usually just flip through the slideshows to get a sense of what the upcoming trends will be (not that I can really tell these days, since everything either looks exactly the same or totally different and it seems like anything goes), but I never truly want what I'm looking at.

Yet this collection is the one that is now making me anxiously waiting for next Spring and Summer to come, just when I was getting super-pumped about layers and cozy sweaters. I even took two pairs of boots to the cobbler to get freshened up for the cooler temps.

So, goals for 2015:
- exercise and tone up my arms for all these cute little bodysuits, and tone up my core for dresses with sheer midriff panels
- win the lottery so I can buy these looks and go on a fancy vacay worthy of them

I'll keep you posted on how I do.

So, voilà—my favorite looks from the collection. What do you think?

On Layering For Fall

Image via / Double vision created by me

As we all prepare for the long weekend + NYFW mayhem, can we just stop for a second and talk about this bodysuit? I was quickly scrolling through Net-a-Porter earlier for some fall fashion inspiration and the weird silhouette of this item made me click, mostly out of sheer curiosity. It was strange—alien-like—among the carefully curated page of wool coats, sweaters, boots. What was this bizarre body stocking with nubs?

A body stocking it definitely is, but those nubs are apparently "hand-applied" Swarovski crystals. SHINY THINGS. ALL OVER. I have to admit that the end effect (well, styled as shown on NAP and the Saint Laurent fall runway) is quite rocker chic. I can also totally see people making a complete and total mess of this piece and looking like a train wreck, photos of which I eagerly await to see via the Interwebz because people are cruel.

So let me pose some questions: are there crystals on the bottom of the footsies? Wouldn't it just feel like you're walking on little pebbles in your moto boots that you can't shake out? And the most important question of all: wearing this clearly (har har) is going to make you feel like a rock star, but how the EFF do you go to the bathroom after you've swigged an entire bottle of champagne?

A Belated-Everything Wishlist

Hello! Bonjour! It's been awhile. I haven't forgotten about PLU, I've just been busy and unfortunately my blog has gotten the short end of the stick. Fortunately, my birthday recently passed and I thought it'd be fun to post a lil' (belated) birthday wishlist because I've been seeing some reeeallly lovely pieces and I can't wait to post them individually. Also because these are all things I wanted for my birthday, I just never told anyone.

1. Dolce & Gabbana Floral-print Bodysuit

An artful floral slash nautical print with bold strokes in a stretch-silk blend fabric. I love Dolce & Gabbana's bodysuits for their loud prints and classic bombshell silhouettes. This would be perfect with jeans and a leather jacket.  $1,245. Available at net-a-porter.com.

2. Mimi Holliday Mojito Set
Y'all know how much I love Mimi Holliday; so much that my birthday wishlist probably would seem like a forgery if I didn't include a Mimi on here! I loved this almost-fluorescent-but-not-quite-because-it's-classier colour the most of the spring/summer colorways, and had to resist the temptation to buy it when I tried it on a few weeks ago. Pair it with a tan (SPF kids!) and a real mojito for summertime cool. Or just hang it up in your room and stare at it.  Bra, $82. Boyshorts, $76. Available at Journelle.com.

3. ARI DEIN Boutique Hotel Demi Gown
In strawberry ice, please! This is lady in the front, and lady-of-the-night in the back. Okay, well she'd have to be a really classy lady of the night. Who isn't really a lady of the night. I mean, at least it's a classy way to show off some side boob and the toned back you've been working on in pilates class. And it's gorgeous, handmade and 100% made in my favorite city, NYC.  $295, available at Journelle.com.

Visual: A Little Bridal Lingerie Inspiration

Beegee Margenyte by Hunter & Gatti for Vogue Spain Brides

Just a little visual bridal lingerie inspiration for a Monday holiday afternoon before the craziness of CURVE NY starts tomorrow! I loved how lingerie takes the focus in some of these photos and there's one with a bodysuit as an untraditional wedding... dress? Makes you think, right?

More photos after the jump. Enjoy!

Clare Bare S/S 2012: Bright Lights, Space-Dye

I got to meet Clare Bare last month at the Lingerie Designer Showcase, which was pretty exciting. I had heard about her and seen a few of her pieces online, but experiencing her collection in person was a real pleasure. I loved hearing about her process and how her lingerie line came about (she had a growing collection of vintage fabrics that she need to use them for something).

Her eco-friendly creations are pretty awesome and super-soft to the touch. She incorporates some really striking details, like criss-cross strappy details in the back of a bodysuit, and tie-dyed mesh paneling to bare it all. These three were some of my favorites—but you really should check out the rest of her collection.

I really loved this bodysuit—the way the back dips, how the straps in the back cross down and around so it doesn't gap, and the tie-dyed mesh is super sexy but still really fun.

Hustle Rose Wireless Bustier & Phoenix Lights Garter Short, Night Bloomer Collection
Okay, y'all know I love anything high-waisted and this garter short is no exception. The bustier bra has a really cool strap detail in the back and as the name says—no wires! Yay! I mean, I know some of you need that but smaller cups who hate wires, rejoice. This one's for you. Plus, the floral-print cups give this otherwise serious bustier a sweet spin.

Illuminate Me Criss Cross Romper, Night Bloomer Collection
Guyssssss, I'm telling you: this one is gorgeous! The bright chartreuse contrasted with the black accents and floral print is something really special. I love how it's cut and pieced together. And it's super-soft to the touch. Always a good quality for lingerie. This one also has a scoop bottom (helloooo back dimples!) and a criss-cross strappy detail. Do it.

Say Hi to Thursday: Chillin' Out, Maxin', Relaxin' All Cool

Say Hi to Thursday, a special day of the week when there's only one more work day before a glorious weekend awaits. Pretty Little Underthings will showcase a weekend-perfect piece we'd love to wear.

Chill Out Teddy by Wundervoll

Ya'll know I love a good bodysuit (I haven't really posted about anything else lately, it seems). This teddy is perfectly named for weekend lounging: "Chill Out". C'mon! How can you deny the Chill Out Teddy a hang out sesh? The criss-cross straps are adjustable, and the back has a slight scoop with a band that runs around from the front (which is smart otherwise the scoop back might make the straps constantly slide off your shoulders). I love the Macadamia color (left) for summer—a sheen-y nude that would look great with a tan (use spf!). It just looks so comfy to wear around at home, especially for us NYC folk, who might be in for a rainy couple of days this coming weekend.

Available online at Zalando.co.uk, or contact Wundervoll for stockists in the US.

Tempting Tuesdays: Lacy Loveliness in a Bodysuit

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

La Fleur Lace Bodysuit by Kiki de Montparnasse
I scored the Absinthe teddy at an Araks sample sale a couple weeks ago, and I've been wearing it as a bodysuit with trousers, high-waisted jeans, a maxi skirt, anything, everything because it just looks SO AWESOME (if I do say so myself).

So now that you know I've been wearing the same thing over and over, I needed to show you this amaaaaazing lacy bodysuit from Kiki de Montparnasse. Look at the additional photos on Net-a-Porter, particularly this one:
HOW AMAZING IS THAT?! I love that the bodysuit itself is such a lovely neutral color, and the purple lace pattern draws all the attention (well the plunge back does too). There's a zipper back there, in case you were wondering how to get it on. Snaps at the bottom so you can actually pee (did American Apparel learn this yet?), adjustable straps, and soft cups with underwire—the bodysuit trifecta.

Oh, and did I mention how awesomely gorgeous it is?

Fashion Friday: As You Like It

I've been so busy with work this week and fighting a cold, so my apologies for missing posts since Tuesday. But it's Friday, which means some pretty editorials featuring lingerie. A few photos I adored from this week:

Loved these two photos of Toni Garrn from Harper's Bazaar, April 2011. Camilla Akrans can make anything ethereal and gorgeous. Both these sheer dresses amplified my wanderlust and I can't wait for a Californian escape. See the entire gorgeous white photoshoot here: via.

Loved the contrasting photos in this vintage-inspired editorial by Liz Ham in Helmet #2. The entire editorial contrasts playful group shots of the models with stunning, piercing stares of individual models. via.

Last but not least, this stunning shot of Nimue Smit by Sebastian Kim for Numéro #122. Helloooo legs, helloooo fabulous wedges, and HIIIIII bodysuit! Love the belt pairing here. via.

See more photos I love on tumblr.

Tempting Tuesdays: Infragante Bodysuit by Bordelle

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Infragante Bodysuit by Bordelle
Celeb-fave lingerie line Bordelle isn't usually my style, but there's something about this bodysuit that I really like. It might be the minimalist color blocking, or the fact that most of the Bordelle bodysuits I've seen seem to say "tie me up", and this one is a lot gentler.

Well, in the front at least. The back isn't so subtle, but isn't that how we like it? (That's what she said! — sorry, couldn't help myself). Even with the cup cut-outs, this would be fantastic under high-waisted trousers or a pencil skirt and a relaxed linen white button-down shirt to show off a bit of the bodysuit, but not everything at once...

Infragante Bodysuit, $250. Available at Bella Bella Boutique.

Hump Day Pick: Sweet Pieces for a Sweet Valentine's Day

In full recognition of the fact that not every woman feels 100% at ease in sexy, sultry lingerie, I wanted to dedicate a post to the women whose style is more of the sweet, beautiful category. These will still make you look and feel amazing, and that's what's most important!

1. Sugared Grapefruit Bodysuit by Eberjey
Sweet lace with hot pink details make this soft bodysuit an everyday piece—you won't want to only save it for special occasions anyway. I think it'd also look so pretty with a long tulle skirt for an outfit pairing.
Available at Anthropologie, $72.

2. Spree Camisole and Shortie by Elle Macpherson
I'll be honest, the lacy back of this camisole totally hooked me. I love how ordinary cotton becomes a bit fancier with the lace details and prettifies it into something extraordinary. Also comes in black!
Camisole, $87. Shorties, $40. Available at Shop-Underwear.com.

3. Folie Teddy by Mimi Holliday
Leopard print can be really intense, but not on this beautiful silk romper! The sheer silk, frilly detailing on the shorts, and the desaturated print makes this teddy just a baby step towards jungle animal, while keepin' it classy.
Available at Derrière de Soie, $140.

4. Icon Lace Bodysuit by La Perla
Oh, heyyy! This gorgeous bodysuit has black buttons all down the back (you need to see it) and a nude mesh panel in the front. Wear it under your special Valentine's Day outfit, or with high-waisted bottoms to make it your special outfit!
Available at Net-a-Porter.com, $570.

Tempting Tuesdays: Araks Absinthe Teddy

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Absinthe Teddy by Araks
I know this is part of their fall collection, and it's named for an intense alcoholic beverage, but this lush green (pun intended) makes me excited for spring! A gorgeous texture combo of cotton crepe and silk charmeuse with thank-god-you-can-pee snaps, it's perfect to pair with skirts, shorts, or jeans. The scoop back will make people look twice when you take off your cardigan, too.

Absinthe Teddy, $220. Available at Araks.com.

Tempting Tuesdays: Nichole de Carle Westminster Silk-Satin & Mesh Bodysuit

Tuesdays will feature a lustworthy lingerie set and a suggested retailer. I think we all need a little something beautiful to at least look at to get us through the week. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Westminster Silk-Satin & Mesh Bodysuit by Nichole de Carle
HOLY MOLY. I totally had something else planned for this week's Tempting Tuesday, but I got an email from a bride-to-be asking if I knew of any retailers who carried Nichole de Carle, or if I could recommend any similar lines. Did a quick search for her and ended up finding this mega-hot bodysuit from a Nichole de Carle collection exclusively for Net-a-Porter.com.
And wow. Just, wow. If you read my blog regularly, you've probably noticed that I prefer to post product shots rather than worn on models, but I think you all need to see what this looks like on. I love the lines in the design and how structured it looks, but still has such an airy touch from the mesh & strategically placed cutouts.

It's so functional too—detachable straps and detachable briefs make this super versatile. You could wear it as a bodysuit, or as a corset sans straps, or just wear the briefs! And with a see-through mesh panel on the bum, who wouldn't love that?

Bodysuit, $225. Exclusively at Net-a-Porter.com.
